I am 59 years old, divorced, and have lived in the City of Taylor for over 40 years of my life. In 1994 I moved from Taylor to Westland, then later to Canton Township. In 2011 I moved back to my "Taylor Roots" and am glad to be here, again. I am a proud Army mom and grandmother of 3 great kids, who mean the world to me. During elementary school I attended St. Alfred's and graduated from Taylor Center High School in 1984.
I graduated from Taylor Center HS with honors and attended some college. Since 1990 to present I have been employed at the U.S. Post Office as a Letter Carrier. Most recently I completed a Microsoft Excel course at WCCC. I have worked as a Poll Inspector for every local, state, and federal election since January 2023 (for a Special Election Primary) in the cities of Westland and Detroit and was a Poll Challenger in Canton, November 2024. For the past 2 years I have been involved in Election Integrity volunteer work. I am passionate about having fair and transparent elections, here in Michigan.
In high school I was elected to Student Council and was also elected captain of the Varsity Pompon team. I would later come back to my High School and coach the JV Pompon team. Raising my young son, as a single mother, I was involved in the city of Westland Cub Scouts for 3 years, as Pack 867 Den Leader, Cubmaster, and Pack Committee Chair, respectively. During those years I also coached youth softball (with our team going to the championship) and was an assistant coach for the Canton Township Mariners youth baseball team (one season).
I was never much of a follower of politics. Before 2017, I only voted in Presidential Elections. That changed in 2017 when I began to see the great degree of conflict occurring in our nation's capital. Since November 2020, I have seen a great divide spreading among the citizens of our great USA. Additionally, our children are being targeted in unimaginable ways. What I saw, from my continued observation, was the destruction of our great USA happening very rapidly, starting in January 2023: open borders, gender confusion, open sexuality. I could no longer sit idly by. I have been a Republican Precinct Delegate for Precinct 5 in Taylor since January 2023. Since that time, I have volunteered for numerous Republican/traditional political candidates, knocked hundreds of doors, hand-delivered over 1,000 flyers, made hundreds of phone calls, and more. I am determined to keep a more traditional (and less WOKE) agenda for the City of Taylor, if I am elected.
End indoctrination and gender confusion in our schools - There are 2 sexes, male and female, and no men in women's sports or bathrooms.
I promise to get residents active again. New Pickleball courts and an annual 5K run.
I support local businesses, mom-and-pop and franchises alike. When everyone is working, we all win.
Keep Taylor property taxes at bare minimum - When property taxes are low, homeowners AND renters enjoy the savings. Taylor's budget must be examined in order to cut down on any waste. Example: Leadership training, at a cost of $1,700.00, can be decreased.
Restore public safety - People should be able to go for a morning or evening walk without fear. Students should be able to attend class in the ABSOLUTE safest environment. Also, bullying will be closely monitored and addressed. "100% bully-free" will be our schools' policy and rule.
Update Taylor Public Library - We need to add additional computers and printers. End the 14-digit ID passcode and 4-digit pin number requirement to use a computer. Kids need to access our library resources stress-free.
Transparency - Everyone says it, but I actually mean it: if elected as City Councilwoman, you can ask me anything, and I will keep digging until I find you an answer. Feel free to CONTACT ME with any questions or concerns at GerskyForTaylor@gmail.com or Call/Text 734-788-6503.
